“Move Over Ya’ll, The Neelys Are Coming To New York”

You all know who the Neelys are? (Pictured here)…That food Network couple who are so in love, they smooch before and after each ingredient is added to their food and slob each other down in between cooking a meal.

Well The New York times is reporting that Pat and Geena Neely, stars of the lovey- dovey food network show “Down Home with the Neelys” are bringing their famous barbecue to New York.

The restaurant will serve the same kind of barbecue they currently offer in their three operations in Tennessee and will be located on 1st and 62nd, right by the Queensboro Bridge. Their new restaurant will replace Merchants NY, which will close in August.

So stay tuned, because you all know when they open, I’m there! 🙂

    1. @CIVIL, the area around the bridge is actually pretty nice. It’s residential, with people there who make a lot of money. The bridge itself house a huge Food Emporium, and a TJ Max store. (I shop @that TJ max sometimes 🙂

There’s some decent neighborhood restaurants of just about every flavor in that area. I think they’ll do really well there.

The Queensboro Bridge vicinity has left a path of failed restaurants in its wake, as it is a difficult area to reach by mass transit. So let’s see how it’ll work out for them.

It’s a “Closed in 12 months location” that’s where it is.

    2. I agree with u. The location is not good. The price of the food will be very high. They will need to pay the rent. U can only go when it is a special occasion.

    1. seems like tourists would be the main draw in that area.

I disagree. I think they’ll have a lot of local business. And frat boys love them some BBQ. Look at how successful Brother Jimmy’s is, and their food is the absolute shit.

  1. I’ve heard good things about their BBQ, plus you would think they’d want to capitalize on their mainstream fame by opening in a place where tourists are at least willing to go. At least then, they’d probably have a strong lunch crowd, as opposed to on 1st where it will most likely be empty during the day.

      1. @Shawnia, I assume the Neelys aspire to open more than just a neighborhood place, which means they will need to attract people who are willing to go out of their way to get there.

That’s true, didn’t think of the lunch aspect. Either way, I’m not embarrassed to say that I’ll check it out

Your cousin is right! Went when I was in Memphis a couple of months ago. I’m not sure about the other locations, but this is a far cry from what I thought it would be.

This joint was surely family run and unassuming. It was dark and nothing screamed “we are on a famous t.v. show” In fact, underneath one of the tvs it said something like “reserved for Food-network TV only” which means they ain’t playin that shit on a regular.
