“The Black Church Speak Out Against President Obama”

On his decision not to defend The Marriage Act

The Rev. Anthony Evans, who heads the National Black Church Initiative — a coalition of 34,000 black churches — is blasting President Barack Obama’s decision to stop defending the The Marriage Act.

The Rev. notes that Obama “has violated the Christian faith” by failing to uphold Jesus’ teaching that marriage is between a man and a woman.

DOMA was signed into law in September, 1996 by then President Bill Clinton. The law is intended to uphold and preserve the sanctity of marriage between a man and woman.

Gays, (and other special interest groups) who make up a substantial portion of the left-wing voting bloc, say the law is unconstitutional. Not surprisingly Obama, who was opposed to gay marriage up until now, all of a sudden agrees with them.

Obama’s new stance has angered the Rev. Evans who says black churches must “reassess their extraordinary support for him.”

Looks like President Obama will not be able to please everyone but he’ll have to take a position and make his position clear.

Anyway, it’s about time “the real church” take a stand against the president’s decision!

Im concerned about the child molester that lives down the street from me and not about the 2 lesbians that live across the street that speak to me every morning and are happy as can be.

    1. I agree with Yvonne, some ppl that go to church want to defend bits and pieces of the Bible. They wanted to pray for Eddie Long because he got caught having intimate relationships with boys, but want to criticize the President for his beliefs.

If that is not hypocritical I don’t know what it. I go to church, but sometimes you have to listen to the Word and ignore the actions because some of these preachers are out of control!!

  9. When did it become a crime to stand up for something you belive in?

Why do people get attacked for holding on to their beliefs?

So gays have the “right” to be married but the church doesn’t have the “right” disagree?

    Oh ok…

And I used to say the phrase “There are more important issues in the wolrd besides _____” until I realized that statement doesn’t always apply. Some issues are JUST as important as others.

  10. Again, his decision doesn’t mean that EVERY church or every pastor has to take part in a same sex wedding ceremony.

These are Revs (both white and black) ought to be more concerned with how the men of the cloth are preying on these young boys.

As far as standing up for what you believe in, people believed in slavery too. And used the bible to support that belief. Sooo…

      —————————————–
Yes there are. First, you are to believe in the atoning death of Jesus the Christ for the forgiveness of sins. Some principals that come off the top of my head are to love each other, forgive, worship the Father, spread the good news of Jesus, care for the poor, have faith in Jesus, pray, be pure and modest.

What makes a person a Christian is first their belief in the resurrection of Jesus and that His death and resurrection was a sacrifical death for the sins of man. Second is to live by the commandents, to be as Paul states, doers and not only hearers of the Word.
      That help?

That’s why I could never even pretend to be a Christian of any kind. I personally questioned everything you mentioned and the more I question without finding answers the less I can bring myself to believe in any of it.

I’m just not wired to go with something on faith alone. I need facts and logic. Things that organized religion simply cannot give me.

      2. @YVONNE: I use to be the same way. Matter of fact I still struggle. But what changed me was loosing my job. I cried out to the Lord because, sadly, He was my “last option”. Man oh man best decision I ever made!

Like I said, I do not agree with homosexuality, but it saddens me the comments that heterosexuals make against gays and it saddens me that gays are not protected under hate crimes. Maybe that will change soon.

    2. @Lisa, YES! That does help, and that’s my belief as well. Thank you.

I asked question because I know a lot of non-Christians that question why there are so many Christians that profess to be Christians, yet they are living just like them (non-Christians).

I know we all sin, and that we are not to judge anyone’s faith because we don’t know their heart, but this is the very reason why many think some Christians are hypocrites.

That being said, I do feel that today’s rhetoric against homosexuals is vile and that they should have hate crime protection as well (the bill here in VA was just shot down)

But do I think Obama is flip flopping on the issue? yes sir

Then again didn’t Bush come out in favor of it as well after he left office?

I know Cindy McCain, one of the Bush twins, and even Anne Coulter have relaxed their stance on gay marriage

Even if being gay is a sin God loves all of us he just hates the sin (my belief). I don’t feel I am any less christian than any other person who says they are christian. I believe Jesus died and rose for my sins.

Most homosexuals beleive in and fear god, maybe if you have any questions about that perhaps you should ask one, but I ask why the hell do people care about who in all likely hood someone you dont know marries, what does it have to do with you, if two men being married threaten your commitment than you have a problem.

The president said his beleif on this is evolving I applaud the grown ups in the room. I have very little faith in the black church just look at the black communities they serve their outreach is largely within!

  25. If being “gay” is against your religion, offends you, or you find it immoral, or you just don’t approve…then DON’T DO IT!! But those are not reasons not to allow other tax paying, law abiding citizens a right that is given to every other citizen of this country. And you don’t even have to be a decent citizen to marry. Any bum, murderer, rapist, felon, crack dealer, etc…can get married…but yet certain people are treating it like it’s some divine right??!! If a same sex couple marries, how does it really affect you other than the fact that you disapprove?

  26. If you belive marriage is some type of religious experience that’s your right. But I see a marriage license simply as a legal document that entitles you to certain rights and priviledges.

He was the most loving and caring person you would ever want to meet. So just because you are gay doesn’t mean you aren’t human and don’t deserve respect and to be loved.
