“She Gave Birth To This 13 Pound Baby Boy”

Shevonne Singleton (pictured with her baby above), gave birth on Thursday and her baby weighed in at a whopping 13 pounds and 22 inches. Little Victor Martinez, Jr. was the biggest baby born at Lenox hospital in 30 years.

Although her baby was born by a Caesarean section, the average weight of a U.S. newborn is 7.5 pounds.

The Harlem stay-at-home mom and her hubby, Victor Martinez Sr., 28, had no clue that their adorable new addition weighed so much while in the womb.

“We weren’t expecting him to be this big,” she said, noting the huggable heavyweight already fits into clothes made for a 6-to 9-month-old.

Victor, nicknamed “Fat Man” by his parents, has been the hit of the maternity ward – and neither his mom nor his doctors can explain why he came out so big.

“I guess I ate well,” Singleton said.

      He will lose a pound or 2 within the first week but doctors will tell her he needs to be on a strict diet cause he is a lil’ overweight for his age.
      She should go on one 2 cause I think she might run a risk of getting diabetes, etc..sorry its the nurse in me..

      1. @Mrs: She more than likely had gestational diabetes, if not diabetes already. She appears to be suffering from metabolic syndrome.

        As a pregnant women, you don’t necessary have to “eat for two”. Just choice healthy choices when eating instead of guessing that “you ate well”.

        As the obesity epidemic becomes more rampant, you should expect this to continue happening.

        Just the doctor in me speaking…

      3. Mrs, you must be a new nurse. He will not loose 1-2 lbs in a week. The mother must not have had prenatal care because the docs would have know it was going to be a big baby. You are right about the diabetes though.

      4. Ionna, she may not had diabetes. My son was 11 lbs 3 oz, 23 in long and I didn’t have diabetes. I was completely healthy. And no I was eating for 2, my eating was fine. I ate healthy but I also ate a lil junk and my doc said it was fine as long as I ate plenty of fruits and veggies and took my prenatal pills. Big babies just ran in my husbands family. He is 6’2 so the length of my son was pretty normal for tall parents. Plus my son lost a pound by the time we left the hospital. The docs didn’t know my son was gonna be that big either until my last trimester when they noticed I was getting big, especially in my last month. They figured 8 or 9 lbs. And yes they did test on me to make sure I didn’t have diabetes. If you aren’t a woman and don’t have kids, don’t comment on what you don’t know about. This woman’s husband maybe BIG too.

  8. Ate well? Hmmmmmmm… big babies (macrosomia) at birth are often a sign of gestational diabetes or if the mom already had diabetes before becoming pregnant……

      Has no problem laying pipe to her, and it did say their “HUSBAND and WIFE” she aint his baby momma and I can only imagine the comments if they weren’t married.
      I hope this baby doesn’t have any future health issues and grows up healthy.

      5. What you eat doesn’t make your baby fat and NO woman looks good in the throws of labor or shortly thereafter. I can guarantee you even Halle looked a hot mess. What is most important is that this woman and her husband are good parents.

        #1 – When a woman is pregnant, it is difficult to control her diabetes and or blood pressure; that is why she has to limit stress and work.

        #2 – When a woman is pregnant, she swells all over, ESPECIALLY her NOSE, LIPS and FEET!!!
        She also gets discolored. Once her body regains its equalibrium, she’d look like a totally different person.

        #3 – The woman just gave birth. The whole experience is overwhelming.

        How do you ugly people sit behind your PCs and make fun of her looks, her age and her child? At least she has a husband, some of you will screw hoes or be a hoe for the rest of your lives.

        You IGNORANT folks are always about this black is beautiful crap, but when someone doesn’t fall in2 the ideals of a EUROPEAN beauty box, you berate them and in the case of this woman, you call her names of people you deem unattractive.

        I frankly see nothing wrong with this woman’s looks. I think once her face comes back to normal, she is an attractive woman. Get over yourselves already!

  16. It doesn’t matter how much you eat when you’re pregnant, if the baby is gonna be BIG, its gonna be BIG. Their are other factors besides “she ate too much” or “she at the wrong types of foods”.

My ex husband is a herbalist and when I was pregnant he asked the Dr. what was in the prenatal vitamins? this lady told us something from horses( i kidd you not) and some other stuff,we were both shocked…..And from that day on with both of our children he bought natural prenatal herbs from the health food. store.

  20. I’m appalled at most of these comments. This women just endured nine effing hours of labor and had a 13 pound baby pulled out of her stomach. Had it ever occurred to you that, yes during pregnancy, your nose and lips swell. Not everybody can give birth and still look like a “Beauty Queen.” Bunch of young ignoramuses!!!

    1. it is her fault the baby is big she could have controlled her gestational diabetes she’s not fooling me woman have a choice over what they eat during pregnancy no matter how bad I wanted certain oily unhealthy foods when i was pregnant I did not put it in my baby’s circulatory system.

  27. Being over weight makes you look older. I’m sure if she lost most of that baby weight she’ll look younger … but she has other kids too … life stress and environment puts wears and tears on the looks/body .. but I know I was looking like a hot mess after delivering with no meds the entire time .. so I’m not mad at her … congrats

  36. i stumbled upon this “CEO Blog” while doing some research. and i must say that i am disgusted at all the negative comments posted about this woman and her child.

    first of, for those of you who apparently cannot read, the dad is 28. no where in the articel does it mention her age. and so what if whe looks 38, 48, or even 58.

    all of you who posted nasty, vulgar, disrepectful comments, i would assume, have never had a child. and if you do, SHAME ON YOU!!!

    if the mother was diabetic, it would have been detected long before she gave birth, thus, the reason why the doctors had no explaination for the baby being so big.

    so the mother “guesses she ate well”…..and? so what. maybe she ate things she shouldn’t have andmaybe she ate healthy. although nutrition is a major factor, there are many factors to a pregnant womans weight gain; not just what she eats. and it does not necessarily in turn affect how much the baby as much as it will his overall health. do your research if you don’t believe me.

I would like to assume that everyone who posted all the horrible comments about this woman and her baby, do not have a mother, are not mother’s themselves, or a father because i don’t see how any person who is a parent or has parents could ever be so down right immature, disrespectful and ignorant. you most certainly would not like it it the script was flipped and you, your wife, mother, daughter or sister were being spoken of that way. learn from this and grow up!!!

  40. 8 years ago I had a 13lb 2oz baby at 36 weeks gestation. He was 22 ½” in length and covered in rolls of fat. He is now a very normal sized, slim and healthy 8yo boy – just a little on the tall side.

    I’m a little 5’3″ mother with no known reason for growing big babies. I eat healthy, exercise and take care of myself. Still, my babies were 8lb 7oz, 13lb 2oz and 9lb 8oz – all early, all gorgeous, none needing any extra care. My husband was only 6lb 7oz at birth and I was only 4lb 3oz so there was no genetic prediposition. I’m interested to see how large my baby due in January will be …

    I would have hated to have had such horrific comments made about my son and I when I was holding in my arms a little person I was incredibly proud of. You should be ashamed of yourselves – I’m sure that none of you look or act perfectly and that there are things in your lives that we could all make fun of.

    Baby Victor is probably a perfectly normal, active toddler now with nothing at all about him that hints at his ample start in life!

  41. This woman just gave birth. She is not looking her best at the moment. When i look at the pictures of me immediately after birth and the pictures of me all dolled up before I knew I was pregnant…they do not look like the same person. Also, just because this woman is not attractive to you doesnt mean she is not attractive to her HUSBAND! Husband is capitalized for those of you out there talking trash but have baby mamas and not wives! At least her man thought enough of her to make her his wife and not his baby mama!
